AUSSOM troops in Ceeljaale meet local leaders to discuss security

Ceeljaale, 07 February 2026 – The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) troops hosted, on Friday at Kilometre 50 (KM50), the District Commissioner, Mr. Moxamad Muxamuud, at their Ceeljaale Forward Operating Base in Lower Shabelle region.

Colonel Robert Koch, the AUSSOM Uganda Battle Group 43 Commander, welcomed Mr. Muxamuud. The two officials discussed ways to strengthen security cooperation among AUSSOM, the Somali National Army (SNA), and regional forces to liberate key areas and villages.

Both leaders stressed the importance of joint patrols and intelligence sharing in preventing attacks, disrupting terrorist activities, and maintaining regional security.

Mr. Muxamuud praised the commanders and troops of AUSSOM for ensuring safety in Lower Shabelle region despite existing challenges.

Colonel Koch reaffirmed that the close collaboration with local authorities, communities, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), and SNA has significantly improved the region’s security.

“We have not registered any major security incidents in the general areas of Marka District due to the strong coordination with the Somali National Army,” said Colonel Koch, who also highlighted the good working relationship with the Marka District Commissioner, and pledged to work closely with the KM50 District Commissioner to maintain peace and stability.
