Mogadishu, 5 March, 2026 – The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, today in Mogadishu visited the Level II Hospital in Sector One to meet AUSSOM personnel injured during a recent combat operation.
He was accompanied by AUSSOM Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma, and Sector 1 Commander, Brig. Gen. Jackson Kayanja.

The visit aimed to boost morale and recognise the troops’ dedication to peace and stabilisation efforts in Somalia. The delegation spent time with the injured personnel and received briefings on their medical condition and recovery.

He emphasised that their sacrifice reflects the highest ideals of service under the African Union and reaffirmed commitment to standing firmly with them throughout their recovery, emphasizing that their dedication continues to inspire those working toward Somalia’s peace, security and stability.
“I wish you well, and have a good recovery. We appreciate the work you do, the bravery you have shown,” he said.
The SRCC also commended the exceptional professionalism, compassion and tireless efforts of the medical teams, whose expertise and dedication are instrumental in saving lives and recovery of our gallant peacekeepers.

AUSSOM troops, in coordination with Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) and international partners, have in recent days liberated strategic Mubarak and Daarusalaam areas in Lower Shabelle under Operation “Rolling Thunder”, aimed at dismantling key Al-Shabaab strongholds in the region.
Brig. Gen. Kayanja reaffirmed AUSSOM leadership’s commitment to mandate implementation, the welfare, morale and wellbeing of its personnel in Somalia.
