AUSSOM PR/16/2025
Mogadishu – The African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) is deeply saddened by the passing of Assistant Secretary-General Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, the esteemed Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).
“Ms. Kacyira embodied the essence of servant leadership throughout her diplomatic career, playing a pivotal role in advocating for both regional and international support for Somalia’s peace process,” said the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene.
Ms. Kacyira was instrumental in the establishment of the tripartite partnership among UNSOS, AUSSOM and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), which has been credited with significant achievements in promoting Somalia’s peace and security.
This tripartite partnership continues to play a critical role in facilitating the gradual transfer of security responsibilities from AUSSOM to the Somali Security Forces (SSF).
AUSSOM expresses its deep gratitude for the logistical support that UNSOS, under Ms Kacyira’s leadership, provided to its military, police and civil components in their efforts to fulfil the AU Mission’s mandate.
The Mission pledges continued close collaboration with UNSOS in the pursuit of long-lasting peace and security in Somalia, honouring Ms Kacyira’s noble aspiration.
AUSSOM extends its deepest condolences to her family, colleagues, and the entire UNSOS community. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
