South West Minister praises AUSSOM’s support for Somalia’s stability

Barawe, 03 February 2026 – South West State Minister of Aviation and Transport, Hassan Abdinur Adan, has thanked the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) troops for their dedication and efforts towards the region’s peace and stability.

During a visit to the AUSSOM Uganda Battle Group 45 headquarters in Barawe on Tuesday, where he met with the Commander, Colonel Justus Musenene, Minister Adan praised the forces for their sacrifice and professionalism in supporting Somalia’s security efforts.

“Thank you for the support, expertise, sacrifice, energy and knowledge you have invested here in Somalia to ensure peace prevails. The way you conduct your work is admirable. Leaving your families behind to serve here is something we do not take for granted,” said Minister Adan, pledging the South West administration’s commitment to working closely with AUSSOM Uganda forces for the region’s peace and stability.

Colonel Musenene said his team remains committed to maintaining peace and protecting key government infrastructure, including Barawe Airport.

“We have a mandate to protect critical infrastructure, and the airport is among them,” said Colonel Musenene.

During the meeting, Minister Adan and AUSSOM commanders discussed ways to enhance security at key sites, particularly Barawe Airport.

The discussion was also attended by the Barawe Airport Manager, Mohamed Nurani Kasim, Military Information Officer, Major David Akandwanaho, and other senior officials.
