MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – 16th July 2026, The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) expresses its profound sorrow at the passing of His Excellency Mr. Hassan Omar Mohamed Bourhan, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Djibouti.
In an official condolence message, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, conveyed the Mission’s deepest sympathies to the Government, the Djibouti Armed Forces, and the people of Djibouti, as well as to the bereaved family of the late Minister.
“It was with profound sadness that I learned of the passing of His Excellency Mr. Hassan Omar Mohamed Bourhan. On behalf of AUSSOM and on my own behalf, I wish to extend our sincere condolences,” stated Ambassador Diene. “Throughout his tenure, the late Minister served his country with exemplary dedication and made a remarkable contribution to peace, security, and stability efforts in the Horn of Africa.”
Ambassador Diene highlighted the late Minister’s unwavering support for African Union peace support operations, noting Djibouti’s significant and valued contribution to AUSSOM as a troop-contributing country. “His commitment to peace will be fondly remembered,” the Ambassador added.
AUSSOM pays tribute to the memory of Minister Bourhan and reaffirms its solidarity with the Republic of Djibouti, a steadfast partner whose commitment to peace and stability in Somalia remains invaluable.
The Mission extends its heartfelt condolences to the Djibouti Embassy in Somalia, and Djibouti Contingent in service with AUSSOM and wishes comfort, strength, and courage to the family, loved ones, the Government, and the Djiboutian people during this difficult time.
