AUSSOM Ugandan troops and SNA clear vital supply route in Lower Shabelle

AUSSOM Sector One and the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) troops conducted a joint Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) operation to repair and secure the Main Supply Route (MSR) connecting Mubarak, Darusalam, and Awdhegle.

Engineers cleared obstacles, removed overgrowth, and rehabilitated damaged sections, restoring critical freedom of movement for troops and civilians.

Sector One Commander, Brig. Gen. Jackson Kayanja, underscored the importance of maintaining MSR secure to sustain security gains and advance stabilisation, noting improved access to markets, healthcare, and essential services.

District Commissioner, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abukar, praised the engineers for their professionalism and support to community development. A local leader, Mr. Shuaib Osman, said the road will reduce transport costs, and boost local economy in Awdhegle.

Ugandan Battle Group 44 Commander, Col. Owiny Akena, highlighted the importance of securing supply routes for mission movement and civilian safety, reaffirming AUSSOM’s commitment to collaboration with the SNA and local communities.

The operation builds on joint efforts that liberated and stabilised Mubarak, Darusalam, and surrounding areas.
